Real-Life Math -- Solution

First, you need to add up the number of samples:

320 + 175 + 4 + 1 = 500

To calculate the percentage of samples in each category, divide the number of samples by 500 and multiply by 100.

320 / 500 x 100 = 64 percent
175 / 500 x 100 = 35 percent
4 / 500 x 100 = 0.8 percent
(less than 1 percent)
1 / 500 x 500 = 0.2 percent (less than 1 percent)

Now you can calculate the total percentage of samples that fall within state standards:

320 + 175 = 495 (The total of the samples that contain a somatic cell count of less than 500,000)
495 / 500 x 100 = 99 percent

Complete the table.
