One of your clients is getting fitted for a new prosthetic leg. He's an avid recreational walker and wants to know how much faster he'll be with a different model.

You ask him to walk at his normal speed, wearing his current prosthesis. You measure his walking speed at 2.2 steps per second. His average stride (step) is 22 inches.

Wearing a new prosthesis, his walking speed increases to 2.5 steps a second. His average stride (step) is now 24.4 inches.

  1. How far does your client travel each second using his current prosthesis?
  2. How fast does your client walk, in miles per hour, using the old prosthesis?
  3. How far does your client travel each second using the new prosthesis?
  4. How fast does your client walk, in miles per hour, using the new prosthesis?
  5. How much farther can he walk each hour with the new prosthesis?
