You are a cultural anthropologist conducting fieldwork on an island in the South Seas near Samoa. For over a year, you have been studying the traditions and customs of a small village of native people. It is nearly time to return home.

Before leaving, you want to obtain some basic census data. The country holds a national census every 5 years; however, the data from this census is not very reliable. You decide to hold your own census.

Once the census is complete, you need to tabulate the data. Here are the results you obtain:

Total population = 500
Number of people over the age of 65 = 70
Number of people between the ages of 21 and 65 = 200
Total number of households in the village = 150
Number of children under the age of 21 = 230
Number of people who have had malaria at some point in their lives = 256

You want to use the data to find out the following information:

  • The percentage of the total population who are over 65
  • The percentage of the total population who are between 21 and 65
  • The percentage of the total population who are under 21
  • The average number of people in each household
  • The percentage of the population that has been stricken with malaria
