Real-Life Communication

Naturopaths spend time talking with patients about their habits, family health history and medical complaints. It is important to build a rapport with patients. As a naturopath, you should be able to read body language and have good listening and questioning skills.

"Communication is huge," says naturopath Dr. Melissa Bradwell. "That's all I do all day is talk to people!"

Diet and exercise make a big difference in a person's health. You're a naturopath, and you're meeting with a new patient. The patient complains of fatigue and wants to have more energy. He says that he drinks "a lot" of water each day. He tells you that he eats healthy food and exercises regularly.

Think of three questions that you can ask the patient to get a clearer picture of his health habits.
