Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You include the photos.

After all, history isn't a collection of things you decide you'd like the world to see. You feel you'd be excluding a vital part of Plum Grove's beginnings as a gold rush town by excluding these pictures.

You're risking your job and the future of the museum, but as a historian, your job is to present as accurate a picture of the past as you can.

This is the real life decision historian C. Morgan Grefe would make. Grefe deals with similar issues in her role as a program developer for a historical society. Some members of the public suspect the historical society of covering up the history of the slave trade in her state.

"People here in Providence have assumed we are covering things up and are protecting the royal families of Rhode Island," says Grefe. "We're actually not, but people think that happens much more than it actually happens."

Grefe says museums and historical societies do their best to remain neutral and objective.
