Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution
You decline the job because of the lack of supervision and seek
employment elsewhere.
You're still in college when someone offers you a paying job. But as it
turns out, the job would put you in a position you're not really trained for.
"I declined the job. Even though it took me three months to find another
CDA [communicative disorders assistant] job, I did find one and am still very
happy about my decision," says Sara Bingham. "If I had taken the position,
I would have been putting myself in an uncomfortable and unprofessional position,
even though another job was not in sight."
Bingham explains that because the job was in a small community, it would've
been hard for her to find someone to supervise her work. "Who would have done
assessments as they were needed? If I'd had questions, where would I have
gone?"
Now, Bingham is certain she made the right choice.
"Without support, guidance and an information network, I don't know what
I would have done. I would have been putting myself, the school board and,
most importantly, the children in the school in jeopardy."
