Real-Life Decision Making

You are a butcher working in a supermarket. A customer comes to your counter to pick up a special order of veal chops. You check quickly and realize there are no veal chops -- someone has forgotten to prepare this customer's order.

You could go into the freezer and cut some chops, but this will take at least 15 minutes and your customer says she's in a hurry. If you are unable to help her, she may take her business elsewhere.

You could also give your customer the equivalent amount of meat in veal fillets for the price of the chops. Veal fillets are the most expensive meat you sell, so you don't really want to do this either.

Should you apologize and ask your customer to wait 15 minutes or should you go ahead and give her veal fillets, which are $3 more per pound than chops?
