Real-Life Math

Brandt Stuart is an adventure therapist. He uses math to prepare his budget, figure how much food he has to buy when he takes a group into the outdoors and forecast demand for his programs.

But math may not be that important in adventure therapy, he says. "You would need...more analytical skills to plan this all," he says.

You are an independent adventure therapist. A group approaches you. It has $5,400 and wants you to put together a program for them.

You will charge $200 per person per day. Ten percent of that price is profit. How many people must participate in this program for you to earn a profit of $300 per day while covering all your costs? And for how long can you run the program?
