You're a geotechnician with a large geological company. Your company has been hired to build a high-speed railway between Washington and New York. You're supervising the first stage of the project -- providing a stable base for all later work.

You're excavating a hill that couldn't be built around. Bulldozers have been digging dirt and rocks out from a large area for several days. One day, it starts raining. When it finally stops a couple days later, the excavated area is flooded.

The area needs to be drained before the project can continue. You're on a tight deadline. The company president wants to know how long it will take to pump the water out of the excavated area.

The flooded area is 24 inches deep, on average. The area is 13 yards wide and 15 yards long.

You only have 1 small pump to drain the area. It can normally pump 16 cubic yards an hour. However, it's only running at about 60 percent capacity.

How long will it take to drain the area?
