Real-Life Communication

A travel guide is responsible for planning many activities for clients during the trip. Clients are going to be curious about what is in store for them during their vacation. You must communicate the plans to your clients, often before they decide to join you on the trip.

"Good communications skills and the ability to relate easily to people of all ages and cultures are very important," says Eric Teunissen, a driver and travel guide. "Public speaking skills and people skills are very important for a travel guide."

You are planning a week-long trip to London, England. You have already sent out the itinerary to your clients. One of your clients, Alex Gist, has e-mailed you to ask for more information and history about Shakespeare's Globe Theater. You are scheduled to visit the theater on day three of the trip.

You have been to the Globe with your tours many times. Here's what you know about the theater:

  • The original Globe was built in 1598
  • It was in London's Bankside district
  • It was an open-air octagonal amphitheater
  • It could seat up to 3,000 spectators
  • The Globe burned down in 1613
  • Construction of the new theater was completed before Shakespeare's death
  • The new Globe operated until 1642
  • The Puritans closed all theaters in 1642
  • The Globe was demolished in 1644
  • Tenements were built where the Globe had been
  • The late Sam Wanamaker (an American actor and director) founded a new Globe Theater in 1993
  • It is near the site of the original
  • The reproduction is as faithful as possible to the original
  • Construction was completed in 1996
  • Queen Elizabeth II officially opened the theater in May 1997
  • The production was Henry V

You need to reply to your client's e-mail to relay the information.
