Real-Life Math -- Solution

You want to calculate each crewmember's share of the money from the salmon catch. The crew caught 980 salmon, each weighing about 5.4 pounds. Salmon pays $2 per pound, and each deckhand can expect 10 percent of the catch.

980 salmon x 5.4 pounds average weight = 5,292 pounds
5,292 pounds x $2 per pound = $10,584
$10,584 x 0.10 = $1,058.40 per crewmember

Each crewmember will receive $1,058.40.
