Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You resuscitate the baby and wait to call the doctor.

You are trained to deal with crisis situations, and think that you can handle this one as well. It wouldn't be smart to call the doctor out of bed every time something out of the ordinary happened.

However, your decision may put the baby in danger. Premature babies are already high risk because of their small size. "They are so tiny that it doesn't take much to cause harm," says neonatal nurse Claudia Ravin.

"Neonatal nurses have to be critical thinkers, able to put together a decision in a moment," she says. "If a baby is in distress, you have to know the measures to take immediately."
