Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You relay the whole sentence, insult and all.

You relay the sentence as it was originally stated. Immediately, the Greek architects start yelling at the Spanish developers.

Soon the Spanish developers are yelling back and nobody's making any sense. You're caught in the middle. Now the Spanish developer is yelling at you, saying he didn't mean for you to translate the insult as well.

If you'd used a little more diplomacy and left out the insult, you might have avoided this confrontation.

"The interpreter should never comment on the behavior of one party to another," says interpreter Sylvia Nagy. "Diplomacy on the part of the interpreter should be exercised at all times."
