Real-Life Math -- Solution
Your opponent:
|X| |X| |2/7| = 50
You:
|X|
|8/| |8/| = 38
Because your opponent scored 2 strikes,
that means he gets to add the next 2 rolls following EACH strike. In frame
1, the score would be:
10 points (for the strike) + 10
points (for 2nd strike) + 2 points for a total of 22.
In
frame 2, the score would be:
10 points (for the strike
in the 2nd frame) + 2 + 7 added to 22 (score of 1st frame) = 41
In
frame 3, add 9 (total pins knocked down) to the previous score of 41. Your
total will be 50 points. That is the total you must tie or beat.
In
addition, because you bowled a strike and a spare, you currently have 38 points:
10
points + 10 points + 10 points + 8 points = 38
Remember!
Count
10 points for a spare, PLUS the the score of the NEXT ball you bowl.
In
order to outscore your opponent and get ahead, you'll have to knock down at
least 3 pins or more.
Teeters says professional bowlers are required
to add up their score sheets at the end of every round. "This could be from
6 to 9 games to add together, plus 30 pins bonus must be added for every game
we win." Clearly, you not only work your body when you bowl, you have to work
your mind and its "math muscle," too.
