Try saying something like this:

At 6:15 this morning there was a chemical explosion at BTP Chemical. The cause is unknown and currently under investigation. There are no reports of casualties and all employees are accounted for. The burning chemical is sodium lignosulphonate, a chemical commonly used to treat gravel roads. The fire is under control but the fumes may be hazardous so the area has been evacuated. More details will be released later. (70 words)

"You've got to be able to communicate very well, whether that's written communication or spoken," says emergency response manager Les Boatright.
