Real-Life Communication

"Librarians must be skilled communicators," says librarian Joanna Aegard. "As the bridge between people and information, we need to be able to ask pertinent questions, listen attentively and inform and instruct precisely."

Imagine you're a librarian and a student named Lynne Kask walks up to the reference desk. You look up from your work. "Can I help you find something?" you ask.

It turns out Lynne is working on a school report about her family history. She has searched the library for books on her last name, but she hasn't found anything. She wants your help.

You tell Lynne that searching under the name Kask is too specific. You try looking up books under genealogy and then under Swedish genealogy (she mentioned that Kask is a Swedish name). You find some books and give them to Lynne. She returns to the reference desk in a few minutes because the information was too general.

Hmm. You haven't been able to find a suitable book, so you decide it's time to search the Internet. What are some keywords you could use in your Internet search?
