Real-Life Communication -- Solution

You are coaching many players and teaching them new skills. You have noticed during the past few weeks that the players aren't improving, and so you question whether your coaching skills need polishing. You have read an article on coaching and these are the answers to questions that were asked:

  1. Why are newly acquired actions more difficult to execute?

Newly acquired actions are more difficult to execute because the body doesn't automatically perform them.

  2. What are specific targets used to measure?

Spatial area or specific targets can be used to measure how much improvement you have achieved in learning a new action.

  3. Why would a good coach force a player to move and hit the same type of newly acquired strokes?

A good coach forces a player to move and hit the same type of newly acquired strokes because tennis is very dynamic and needs to be measured as such. Also, if your coach never challenges your movement then you may be in a state of shock when you play your next match.

  4. Why is it important for a coach to feed a player a variety of different balls?

A coach should feed a player a variety of different balls because by receiving a number of different balls a player will be able to see if her stroke is solid or full of holes.

"A coach has to think about the best way to communicate with players, and think about their coaching strategies," says Nita.
