Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You recommend expulsion.

You realize the severe downside of his expulsion. Students will protest it, the offender's parents will fight it, his talent will go unrealized at the college football level and school spirit will wane as his team nosedives out of the season.

However, you've established the three-strikes policy for a good reason. You believe in a school system where students respect each other enough not to resolve arguments by throwing punches. Your vision has caught on and the campus is a safe oasis in a world where school violence is a general crisis. If you make an exception for a football star, you're weakening the rule and threatening the school's real peace. You decide to recommend expulsion.

The boy is expelled amidst a flurry of expected tempers. But mixed into the reaction is a fair chunk of community parents and students who communicate their support for your hard stance. They love their school and its unique environment, and value it above the ambitions of a football team and its spoiled bully.

They thank you for doing what you're paid for: to make brave decisions in the best interest of all students.
