A school has hired your company, Tuning Fork Productions, to record their concert band. The band is going to perform the theme music from the original Star Wars movies. The recording will be sold as a fund-raiser, at a price of $10 per copy.

The school wants to know how much you'll charge to make 500 CDs for them.

  • The school is in a small town 60 miles from your studio. You charge 30 cents a mile for transportation both ways (120 miles in total).
  • You charge a unit cost of $5 per CD.
  • You'll have to pay mechanical rights fees to the owner of the songs. These fees give you permission to record the songs, at a cost of 7.5 cents per song, per CD. Each CD will feature 7 songs.

Using the above numbers, figure out the following problems.

  1. How much will you charge the school?
  2. How many CDs will they need to sell to break even?
  3. How much money will the band raise if they sell all 500 CDs?
