Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You call your coach and your three teammates to discuss the situation.

You explain how you feel and answer all their questions. You listen closely to their feedback. All your teammates agree that if you are able to surf, they want you out there. You are the guy who can help them win. But they also say they'll understand if you can't compete and say they don't want you to risk long-term injury. Your coach urges you to make the decision yourself.

Maybe it's the talk from your teammates, but something energizes you. You take a long hot shower and eat a healthy breakfast. Before long, you know you're ready to compete.
