Real-Life Communication -- Solution

Teamwork is not always easy.

Here's one way of handling the problem with the horse Delaney Presto:

Try broaching the subject in a general way. Remember, the trainer has a vested interest in the horse, too.

"Have you noticed that Delaney isn't herself lately? She just didn't seem to have the drive out there today. Maybe she just had an off day."

Another approach may be to let the trainer speak first. "Did you see the race? What did you think happened?"

If he says it was all your fault, you can respond, but still keep your cool:

"I see your point, but it seemed a lot different out there on the track. I was pushing her but she didn't want to go into the pack. She just didn't have it today. Do you have any idea what could be wrong with her or has she seemed strange to you at all lately?"
