Real-Life Decision Making

Every day as a poultry farmer, you record the mortality rates of your flocks. In a flock of thousands of birds, a small percentage of deaths each day is normal.

One flock, which is three weeks old, draws your attention. For three days, the mortality rate has been twice the normal level. You scratch your head, wondering if anything's wrong. Maybe there are just a few more runts than usual.

Now, five days have passed. It's Friday, and the mortality rates are still twice the normal level.

It will be difficult and expensive to get a specialist in on the weekend. But this is different from anything you've seen before. The situation doesn't feel right to you.

What do you do?
