Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution
You report the problem to your manager.
As all automotive engineers know, safety is the top priority. In fact, your professional code of ethics as an engineer requires you to always protect the public.
"You've got to tell your boss, 'This is what's going wrong, and this is what I think we should do,'" says Jennifer Stockburger, an automotive test engineer.
"I have found that coming clean is much more beneficial, and integrity is huge," she adds. "There's the reputation of integrity, both your own and the company's. If you do get found out, and you go to pursue new business, maybe the next guy won't want to work with you."
Also, your company could be sued if your faulty product causes damage or injury.
