Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You recommend they take the guided tour.

At first the pair insist they can manage on their own, but you suggest they trust you and take the guided tour. The couple returns eight hours later with baskets of great souvenirs and smiles on their faces.

They thank you for recommending the tour and say that it all seemed a bit overwhelming once they got ashore. They're glad you steered them away from their original plan.

This is the real-life decision made by cruise director David Van depas.

"Depending on someone's experience and expertise in traveling, you might suggest they get in a taxi and explore on their own," he says. "But if someone's never really traveled, it can be frustrating if they don't know where to go or what to see. Many people are better off to take the tours."
