You decide that the matter is of no great concern.
You wait for the choir members or the director to approach you if they need outside help. Everyone knows that a meddlesome person is of no help in disputes. The problem will soon heal itself and you're confident it's just not a big deal.
"A minister must be prepared to recognize the little irritations and do something about them before they escalate," says minister Terry Dempsey. "You can't say, 'I don't care,' or, 'It's no big deal,' because it's important to someone. If it's important to someone, it should be important to you."
After another tense practice, it becomes increasingly obvious that the choir isn't happy with the new music. They tell the director they refuse to perform any of his classical pieces. The director doesn't listen. On Sunday, he attempts to get the choir to sing the classical music. They refuse and begin to sing their own, more contemporary music. The director storms out of the building.
You're left in the embarrassing situation of explaining to the congregation what is happening. They murmur in their pews, and it's difficult to finish the service. As you greet people after the service, they are full of questions -- and reprimands.
Some people think the director was wronged. Others disagree and say the director was disrespectful.
