Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You refuse to redo the designs.

You take your sketches to several other manufacturers, each of whom says your work is too radical for this season's fashions. The manufacturers tell you they have strict guidelines to follow and they can't alter them. The competition between manufacturers is too stiff to allow them to create anything too risky.

After applying to several manufacturers, the deadline for the spring line goes by. Your designs go unused.

"You have to really listen to what the manufacturers are asking for and put a taste of yourself into it," says Massachusetts designer Liz Tompkins. "It's important to maintain your individual style, yet still be able to incorporate it in a very subtle way when you need to."
