Real-Life Communication -- Solution

Try saying something like this:

"You're a really bright kid and I'm sorry to hear you're leaving school. I want you to realize that although it seems like a good idea right now, you'll probably be stuck in that job, or another one just like it, for the rest of your life. Can you picture yourself doing this when you're 40?

"If I didn't care, I wouldn't be talking to you right now. But you've got too much going for you to cut off your options at this point. I guarantee that job will still be there in a year after you graduate, if you still want it.

"You've come this far in school now. Give it another chance."

"You need to be able to communicate both orally and often in writing because of learning styles," says high school science teacher Carrie Jones. "Most students, I've found, are more visual learners, so teachers have to be able to communicate quite a bit in writing, more so than you'd think, like when you give the notes or give worksheets or the lab directions."
