Real-Life Math

You are a medical illustrator. You must draw an illustration of a fetus in the womb for a prenatal course at the local community center. In order to do a proper reproduction, you need to draw the artwork to fit a paper that is 4 inches by 9 inches.

"I use math skills mostly when it comes to the reproduction aspect," says medical illustrator Jaye Schlesinger.

However, the class is looking for a picture that can be printed at 12 picas wide by 27 picas high. You know that there are 6 picas per inch.

You need to draw the picture, then photocopy it at a decreased size to equal the 12 by 27 pica format. At what percentage will the drawing need to be reduced?
