Real-Life Decision Making

You're the product manager for InfoStar Software Productions. You're at the initial stages of developing an accounting software package. The plan is to have two different versions of the software -- one for individuals and another for companies.

You've got to decide whether you're going to develop both versions at the same time, or focus on one at a time. The advantage of developing both at the same time is that you'll end up with two different products on the market. If one doesn't do well, perhaps the other one will!

On the other hand, developing two versions at once means your development team will be less focused. It could be a challenge to get everything done, and done well. Also, you aren't sure that you understand the consumer market as well as the business market.

The chief executive officer is watching you carefully. If you make a mistake, you might get fired. What do you suggest?
