Real-Life Math

Information officers judge the effectiveness of their press releases by the number of news stories that result from them. If they write 6 press releases a month and only 1 ends up in the media, then the information officer knows there's a problem.

You are an information officer looking at your press release statistics for the past few months. You want to find out how effective your press releases have been in making it into television, radio and newspaper media.

You sent out 12 press releases over the past 2 months to each of these news sources. Your press releases made the news 4 times on television, 5 times on the radio and 9 times in the newspaper.

Using these numbers, figure out your success rate by calculating the percentage of your press releases that were used in newspapers, television and radio.

Once you've done this, calculate the total percentage of your press releases that ended up being used in published news stories.
