Real-Life Communication -- Solution

As a university president, you are being briefed on the new athletic center that is proposed for your campus. The project has run into a few problems. What does the coordinator tell you in response to your questions about the project?

1. How much over budget is the center?

The building is $8 million over budget. At the moment, its projected cost is $18 million. That's compared to the $10 million that was allocated for the building.

2. What are the two options you suggest presenting to students that will graduate before the center opens?

They could opt out of the payment plan. Or you could try to convince them that they're paying for other students' futures, just as others did for them.

3. What are three things that you think a major corporate sponsor could ask for in exchange for funding dollars?

A sponsor might ask to have the building renamed. They might want their logo on school uniforms. Or they could demand a monopoly on the products sold at the center's clothing store.
