Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You go the commercial route and build a store on ranch grounds.

You decide to go ahead with the building of the gift shop. At the time, it seems like a great idea. If things go as planned, it will pay for itself in no more than a couple of years with the revenue it brings in.

Unfortunately, because you decided to begin construction two months before the Punchy Dude Ranch's May 15 opening, there were problems. Word got around pretty quickly that the ranch was "under construction" and people stayed away. You ended up having your worst year financially.

"[Our ranch] gives people that feeling that they're far away from the tensions of city life," say Bill and Krista Burleigh, who run a ranch in Wyoming. "Just give the people the simple things -- the horseback riding, the good food and the fishing -- and they'll be back."

As you can see, the store was a bad idea.
