Real-Life Math

What does math have to do with choreography? "You need to be able to work on a very small budget," says choreographer Deborah Lundmark. With this in mind, it's easy to see why bookkeeping skills would be a definite plus.

As a choreographer, last year you put together your first dance concert. You were fortunate to get two grants to help with the expenses -- one for $4,600 and another for $3,000. This year, for your new project, you've managed to raise 15 percent more than you did last year. Out of the total, you've decided 20 percent of your budget will go to costumes.

How much more did you raise this year?

How much will be spent on costumes?
