Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

Accept the complaint

As the property manager in an office building, you must deal with complaints from the building's tenants. Two weeks ago there was a complaint that the soup in the cafeteria was not hot enough. Now that the temperature has been increased, you receive a complaint that it is dangerously hot.

You take the complaint seriously. You ask the cafeteria to lower the temperature slightly. And you post a sign warning people to be careful because the soup is very hot.

Kristy Ludwar is an on-site property administrator at a large office building. She faced a similar decision at work when two people complained they were scalded by hot soup.

"We asked the cafeteria staff to post signage that the soup was extremely hot. There haven't been any complaints since," she says.
