Real-Life Decision Making

A woman named Sherry is sitting in the chair ready to have laser surgery on her eyes. She is calm and prepared for the surgery. She tells you that she is looking forward to being able to see without having to wear her glasses all the time.

You help set up the equipment for the ophthalmologist. Suddenly Sherry starts to cry. "I can't. I can't. I can't," she sobs. "I'm so scared. I can't do this."

You have already had a consultation and a counseling session with Sherry and her husband. Sherry says she is an emotional person by nature, and that she can't handle stress very well. In the counseling session, you calmed her fears and explained the surgery. She convinced you that she was ready and could hardly wait for the surgery.

Sherry waited one month to get in to see the ophthalmologist. But it doesn't seem to matter. Sherry grips the sides of the chair in fear and continues to wail.

What do you do?
