You carry on preparing for the surgery and try to calm her down.

Patients often get nervous before a surgery, but this doesn't mean that they don't want the procedure done.

"Sometimes you decide that you should take a moment and then carry on," says ophthalmic assistant Donna White. "But it all depends on the state of the patient. If they are extremely upset, there is no point, and you have to decide to stop and perhaps postpone it for another day."

Each decision must be made on a case-by-case basis. It's probably not in the best interest of the patient to carry on against her wishes.
