Real-Life Communication -- Solution

You are an architect and you need to describe your plans for designing a climate-responsive home. Here's what you could write in your proposal:

Our design will create an environmentally sustainable home. The solar design is powered by photovoltaic cells that produce energy directly from sunlight. It is climate-responsive and can adapt to weather conditions. For example, energy can be stored for use at night and on rainy days.

We plan to creatively incorporate repurposed products such as wooden shipping palettes, copper roofing and automobile tires. When it is not possible to reclaim and transform materials, we will use sustainable materials to minimize the impact to the environment. Efficient mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems are essential components of the design.

Rod Henmi says that communication of all types is critical to the work of architects. Architects verbally communicate with team members, clients and the public in meetings.

"Writing skills are also highly valuable, because unfortunately few architects write well, but we often need to describe our designs and ideas in narrative texts," says Henmi. He is an architect and design director in San Francisco, CA.
