Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You buy salad dressing at the corner store and then split the scene. After all, it is only cookies.

After buying some salad dressing at the corner store, you wish the people well and leave, feeling very guilty. They never did mention the missing cookies; in fact, you never saw them again.

At some point in the evening, one of the hosts had commented to another that there were supposed to be cookies. Yes, the other agreed, and they wondered about that. Others joined in the wondering and soon people were asking just what the name of that caterer was who had forgot the cookies.

Indeed, reputation is everything, and word of mouth is how it gets around. Now you're remembered as the caterer who completely forgot about the cookies -- even though you had been paid to bring cookies.
