Real-Life Communication -- Solution

Your responsibility is to go beyond the paper and make the risk clear to your client.

Here's what you could say:

"This money market fund is not insured or guaranteed. There is always a risk, however small, that you can lose some or all of your money. But it represents an important piece of a diversified portfolio.

"From my understanding at our last meeting, you wanted some investments that were conservative, but that would give you the opportunity for increased income over what your bank could do for you. The diversification of the portfolio I've outlined gives you some protection from risk.

"But again, there are no guarantees. You need to decide if these relatively small risks are worth it to you to meet your goal of more income in your retirement."
