Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You decide to reverse your call on the play.

Although the receiver insists the ball didn't bounce, the linesman -- an impartial member of your officiating team -- says it did. The word of this linesman is enough proof for you. You call the touchdown invalid.

This is the real-life decision made by referee Larry Rohan.

It was one of the toughest calls Rohan had to make in his 17 years as a referee. His decision was based on one factor alone -- teamwork. It's essential the officials back each other up and are united in their calls. For this reason, he sided with the linesman and reversed the call.

Reviewing the tape after the game, Rohan could clearly see the linesman official had been right. The ball hit the ground before the receiver picked it up. "This guy lied to me point-blank," he says. "That player without a doubt knew the ball was incomplete."
