Real-Life Communication -- Solution

You are a birthday party clown and want to convince the guests that you have the ability to read their minds. You've been reading and think you've found the perfect gag to start your act.

  1. Why does it seem as though you can read minds?

It appears that you can read minds because your helper places his finger on the glass just after the person who placed the object does. You have a foolproof way of discovering the guest, without the others understanding how you knew.

  2. What type of person usually makes a good helper?

You can select a good helper by picking someone unexpected. This person will generally keep a secret better.

  3. What happens if the person who placed the object tries to trick you?

If the person who placed the object tries to trick you, then your helper won't place his finger on the glass.
