Real-Life Decision Making

You enter your office and find a note that has been slipped under your door. You pick up the paper and find that it's a note from April, one of your students. She is writing on behalf of another student named Sam. In the note, you find that Sam is requesting an extension on his final term paper.

Sam! Throughout the term he has asked for an extension on every single paper and exam. You granted him one extension, but warned that you would not give him a second one.

You made a point to tell the rest of the class that you would not accept any extensions on term papers. They must be handed in on time! "You always have to deal with people who want extra time for this or that reason," says Carol Gerson, an English professor.

You look at the note again. April has jotted on the bottom of the page: this is a very serious situation, and I hope that you will understand. Please call the following number so that Sam can explain why he wants you to give him another extension.

What do you do?
