Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You give her information on braces and urge her to consider her decision carefully.

When you're dealing with adult patients, time isn't an issue in dealing with their teeth -- unlike when you're dealing with a child's teeth. So if you give the person some time to decide after giving them all the facts, it works out best for the patient and for you.

Dr. Antonios Mamandras is the chairman and director of a graduate program in orthodontics. He says orthodontists make business decisions in addition to medical decisions.

"They have to make [business] decisions as well: whom to fire, whom to hire, how to structure their office," says Mamandras.
