Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You make an appointment for next week.

The patient has said that he doesn't want to come in this afternoon, so you pencil in Victor's appointment for next week. It actually turns out for the best because you would have had to juggle some appointments to get Victor into the office this afternoon.

Next week, Victor comes into the office, assisted by his wife. She seems very worried. "It is so difficult to get him here at all," she says. "I knew that if he actually called to make a doctor's appointment it must be very serious. I'm worried that his health has really deteriorated over the past week. Something needs to be done right away."

Victor does look very ill, and you wonder if it would have been better to get him into the office last week.

"You have to prioritize the appointments," says May Au, a medical office assistant. "But you can't always do what looks like the easiest situation. Sometimes you have to juggle appointments to get a patient in to the doctor."
