You present your findings.

You go into a meeting and present your findings. Everyone is very pleased by the news and drilling is set to begin soon.

Three months later, in the middle of drilling, small tremors start to happen. Then, a small earthquake is caused by the drilling!

There is lots of damage done to both the site and the equipment. The company wants to know why you didn't provide any warnings about the potential for tremors.

You should have waited to present your findings.

"If a geophysicist recommends drilling and is proven to be wrong, the company may have wasted a million dollars or more on an exploratory well. On the other hand, if they recommend against drilling, it could cost the company a potential profit of $20 million," says geophysicist Neil Anderson.
