You are an electrical inspector doing an inspection. You're about to inspect an area where some of the electrical equipment is installed.

You walk over to the working space, open the door and turn on your flashlight to see what's ahead of you. You duck to avoid an overhead beam. You take out your measuring tape and find the area is a roomy 112 inches by 122 inches. It's so roomy that the owner has had plenty of room to install a set of shelves.

You want to double-check what the electrical code says about spaces like this, so you pull it out. It reads:

Section 110-116

Working space includes the necessary width and depth for examination, adjustment, servicing or maintenance of equipment "while energized." The minimum working space is 76 inches wide and 91 inches deep, but no less than necessary for swinging doors to open 90 degrees.

Equipment can be flush to one side of a wall, because the 76-inch dimension is not measured from the center of the equipment. There shall be no storage in the working space and there must be an accessible entrance to this space. There also must be illumination and sufficient headroom. The minimum headroom of working space above service equipment, switchboards, panelboards or motor control centers shall be two yards. Where the electrical equipment exceeds two yards in height, the minimum headroom shall not be less than the height of the equipment.

Does this place pass inspection?
