Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You insist the fragrance should remain the same.

This can be tempting, especially after months of hard work. However, arguing with the client is never a good idea.

Most people appreciate a perfumer's professional judgment. Some don't, but they're still the customer, and the customer's always right.

You can make suggestions, but the customer might not listen. If they don't, it is never a good idea to insist on your own way.

"It is so subjective, and you ultimately have to please the client, because if you don't please the client, someone else will," says perfumer Claudette Belnavis. "It's a very competitive field."

Perfumers can lose their job for always arguing with clients. Many work on commission, so even if they don't lose their job, they miss out on a lot of money.
