Real-Life Math

You are a zookeeper looking after a herd of zebras. During the summer, the zebras graze on the expanse of green grass in their pasture. However, their diet has to be supplemented, especially in the cold winter months.

"You use math all the time," says zookeeper Grant MacFarlane. "You use it to feed, to make schedules and to count the animals. They multiply every spring, you know."

You are piling feed into the back of your pickup truck to haul over to the zebra pasture. You will take a 7-day supply of feed to the barn.

You have 18 zebras. Each zebra gets 1.5 pounds of oats in the morning. They also get 1 flake of hay in the morning and 1 flake at night.

Questions:

How many bags of oats will you take to the barn for 7 days? (Each bag has 50 pounds of oats in it.)

How many bales of hay will you take? (Each bale has approximately 12 flakes in it.)
