Saddle Maker

Real-Life Activities

Real-Life Communication

As a saddle maker, you need to promote your product. You need to get out and tell people why they should pay more for a handmade saddle.

Saddles that are mass-produced might cost only $1,000. Your saddles range in price from $2,500 to $3,000.

You select only the best part of the hide to use for each piece of leather. Sometimes you need thicker leather, while sometimes you need leather that will stretch.

You cut all the parts of the saddle by hand. Therefore, you can alter the design more easily to suit the customer. You always learn exactly how someone will use a saddle before you make it so that it meets their needs.

You have a booth at a trade show. A rancher has stopped to look at your products. He wants to know why he should spend more for saddles that aren't mass-produced. If you convince him, it could result in a large order for you.

Write down what you'll tell the rancher. Make sure you're persuasive!
