Hypertext is a feature on a website. It allows you to click on a
word or object. When you click, another file is retrieved. This other file
can be another web page, an image, a sound file or another document.
Spiders
are computer robot programs. They are also called crawlers, knowledge-bots
or knowbots. They are used by search engines to roam the Internet. They visit
sites and databases, gathering information that keeps the search engines'
databases up to date.
HTML stands for Hypertext Markup Language. It
is a standardized computer language. HTML is behind the scenes of all web
documents. It contains the images, textual content, links to other documents
and formatting instructions for what is displayed on the screen. Web browsers
interpret HTML to display what you see when you visit a website.
"I
think [communication skills] are very important, especially if you're the
initial developer," says Matthew Cramer. He's a multimedia developer. "If
you're doing the design work, you have to be very verbal with the client on
what they want to achieve.... It's very important to keep your lines of communication
open and be good at communicating what you're thinking."
